...mutta myöhäinen puutarhuri saa elokuisen lounaan. Reissusta kotiin rantauduttuamme ei jääkaapissa ollut oikein mitään järkevää lounaaksi. Ei muuta kuin pihakierrokselle ja lounas oli koottu.
... but the late gardener gets the August lunch. Coming home from a trip I realised there wasn't much of a lunch in the fridge. Luckily a tour around the garden fixed it all.
Koska salaatti, porkkanat ja herneet menivät niiiiiiin myöhään maahan, oli nyt jotain vihreää syötäväksi. Porkkanat nyt sentään eivät olleen kummoisen kokoisia, mutta saihan niistä vähän edes väriä. Perunat ovat perua edelliseltä vuodelta: viime vuonna istutin perunat, mutta myyrän *leet. söivät ilmeiseti yhtä lukuunnottamatta kaikki. Tänä keväänä en kiusallanikaan laittanut perunoita, mutta edellisen vuoden paikasta nousi yksi sitkeä perunanvarsi. Nyt on sekin kaiveltu (okei, vähän rupisia perunoita mutta hillittömästi!) .
Because I was so late in sowing the salad, the carrots and the peas, there was something to eat today. Okay so the carrots would have been better had I been there earlier, but at least they brought some colour into my salad. The potatoes are surprise from last year: one must have escaped the evil moles that ate all potatoes last summer and made it through winter to give me plenty of potatoes this year!
Ja toki lautaselle päätyi vielä pari auringossa kypsynyttä tomaattia.
And of course some lovely sun ripened tomatoes...
